A: Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan
(NYKS) is an autonomous body setup under the
Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government
of India, and it works towards the empowerment
of youth of India.
Q: When and why
was it setup?
A: NYKS was started in 1972, and
has been active ever since in providing the
youth of the country with opportunities to
grow and develop themselves.
Q: What sort of
activities is NYKS involved in?
A: NYKS is active in areas like education,
health, sports, art & handicrafts, community
development activities etc., through all of
which, it strives to model the youth of the
country into aware and contributing citizens.
Q: How does NYKS
carry out its work?
A: NYKS carries out its work by means
of implementation of projects and schemes.
They are formulated either by NYKS itself
or other bodies like Ministries of the Govt.
of India, and/or agencies like WHO, UNESCO
etc., and are accordingly funded internally
or externally.
Q: In what parts
of the country is NYKS active?
A: NYKS has presence in almost all
the districts of the country. There are over
500 centers (known as Nehru Yuva Kendras)
at the district level. They form the grass-root
links of the organization. Further up, there
are Regional and Zonal offices and the Head
Quarters, which are in New Delhi.
Q: How successful
has NYKS been in carrying out its work?
A: Since its inception, NYKS has
covered numerous milestones and continues
to do so even now.
